My friend Nick really likes this song (as well as the whole movie, naturally) and thinks that I should learn and sing it in treble (countertenor) range....though personally, I think down the octave would sound a good deal better for me, as it's deceptive how low/rich a contralto voice (as this vocalist on the soundtrack is) can sound when actually at a fairly high pitch. I don't think it's too low for a lyric tenor like m'self to project well and even flamboyantly with, even though I possibly could still toss off a Baroque-style bit of countertenory. Shall have to play around with it a bit and see what works.

And if you want more Johnny  to look at.....here's a link to last November's photo feature, "Bedhead Revisited."

I was going to post about this earlier, but it slipped my mind for a month -- I sang a classical/opera concert with Nick at the senior residence where he works, the two of us naturally being tenor and baritone together. It went off very well, I have to say -- the interesting detail, though, being that as a well-groomed young man I don't look older than say...17 or 18.

Whereas in reality I an actually 31, and will be 32 in less than two months. I am a year and twenty days older than Nick, even though he has always looked older and more formal than me in any situation of our twelve years' acquaintance.

Sample conversation, as told to me by Nick over the phone within the next few days after our concert....

Resident: "Oh, that young man has such a beautiful voice....how old is he?--seventeen?--eighteen...?"

Nick (suavely): "Thirty-one."

Resident: "Why, that's amazing!--he certainly doesn't look it."

Nick (dryly): "Yes, he bathes in the blood of virgins. You ought to see the portrait he keeps in the attic..."

Okay, he didn't actually say that last bit aloud. It's just what he was thinking of saying....>:)

Oh, btw -- if you've missed catching me on IM and I haven't replied to offlines, it's 'cause of my YIM acting up and 'encountering problems' every time I sign on.  A good reboot oughta clear it, but I have to post lingering shite and get the windows out of the way first.  So don't panic at my silence there -- as I've often said, temporary silence usually just means technical difficulties, not that I'm pissed or disapproving or anything (anyhow, if I were pissed, I would be certain to make it clear exactly why and wherefore and at whom...).  Just assume that I haven't had time to read anything for the past couple nights, and we can talk when we have opportunity to do so in a reasonably stable and non-selfdeleting medium.
