Ukiyo-e (浮世絵, Ukiyo-e), "pictures of the floating world", is a genre of Japanese prints and paintings produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries. it mostly featured landscapes, historic tales, theatre, and pleasure. Ukiyo is a rather impetuous urban culture that has bloomed in popularity. Although the Japanese were more strict and had many prohibitions it did not affect the rising merchant class and therefore became a floating art form that did not bind itself to the normal ideals of society.
People that chose Ukiyo-e art tend to be more simplistic yet elegant. They don't care much about new style but are comfortable in creating their own. They like the idea of living for the moment and enjoy giving and receiving pleasure. They may be more agreeable than other people and do not like to argue. They do not mind following traditions but are not afraid to move forward to experience other ideas in life. They tend to enjoy nature and the outdoors. They do not mind being more adventurous in their sexual experiences. They enjoy being popular and like being noticed. They have their own unique style of dress and of presenting themselves. They may also tend to be more business-oriented or at the very least interested in money-making adventures. They might make good entrepreneurs. They are progressive and adaptable.
 

Hmm.......well, once again (that is, as with many quiz/personality test results), I have to take issue with the whole non-arguing thing (not to mention following traditions...) -- I may not like to argue, being a Libra and all, but I think everyone who knows me atall knows that I do it quite intrepidly when I think argument is warranted. Though, I do think that logic and rhetorical nuance make a difference there, rather than just trying to piss people off or take them down a peg -- "argument for argument's sake" is not the best interactive policy, and I know that I reserve judgement (or just hold my tongue) far more often than I pronounce it openly. Which is fairly Japanese of me, I suppose...even though I get no such credit for it due to the invisibility of the act. I would say that the greatest honour I do someone is to not self-censor and to be scrupulously honest to their face...if I have to hold back my real thoughts, it means that there's less respect being shown, not more.

Anyhow......(and although I thought I picked a fair amount of abstract/surreal pieces in this thing), Ukiyo-e is certainly apt enough for me, historically and personally, going by all those traits and details. Social prohibitions may have been fairly strict back in the Edo period, but that didn't prevent the future Mito daimyo from doing all sorts of potentially-scandalous things. One may give a great deal of expected lip-service to tradition and reputation and yet bend the rules to accommodate one's true lifestyle and leanings, and make a social freedom within that self-carved space, and I, um....yeah, had an interesting personal life which remains (so far as I know today) completely unknown to the historical record. Tactfulness indeed.

 

Heh.....there's some TMI, though still without clearly naming names. Actually, anyone who's seriously into the whole pastlives and soul-history weirdness (and I do mean seriously, 'cause you know I'm not one to fluff around with things), drop me a line and I may give you a password, so to speak -- along with my other side-mentioned groups, I have a network set up on Ning for deep discussion and the needful debate of haggling out the truth, and sometimes the existing historical record could do with a bit of correction.

(I haven't forgotten about anyone or catching up as promised -- things have just been hectic over the holidays and I've miles to go -- so it feels -- before I have a predictable online routine to settle into. Which is why I'm still never YIM-visible at any decent evening hour....bear with me, I'll get there.)

Actually, I was a bit surprised that I didn't wind up w/ Cubism as my result, as I chose a fair amount of splintered and twisted images (I'd have taken Surrealism or Symbolism in a heartbeat if they had 'em, seeing as those are - I think - visibly closer to my own style of work). Funny that I should show up as more traditional and less-visibly extroverted than you -- I know I was thrown for a loop when I took the Myers-Briggs test and turned up as an ENTJ. Guess circumstances of life are a bit influential there - up here in the 'burbs it's easy for me to blend in as relatively normal and traditional-in-some-ways, whereas you feel the grating of social pressure on your differences more constantly, being out in the 'boonies....:-?

As I've been drawn from my space like brains through the nose of cadaverous Egyptian royalty, I've noticed the pressure and the differences are more abundant and varied. Didn't take the M/B one yet, but I took several others. I guess I'll post them on my LJ, too, just for reference's sake.

I never figured myself as a cubist- Surrealist, yes, Symbolist, definitely, given how downright superstitious and paranoid I've become regarding some things I've been looking into more carefully.

Wondering if the extroversion factor's just picking up on plain old visual self-whoring in mine? I am quite a loudmouth, though, too.

You know, one of the most distinctive (or notorious) things about Dragons, as per profile, is how vocal and attention-attracting they are....case in point, my Libra-Dragon summary from :

I never thought I'd find myself disagreeing with Horse, but there are some inconsistencies there. Actually, I'd forgotten I even had facebook until this came up.

I'm practically a textbook-stereotypical Dragon, m'self -- fiery, flamboyantdramatic, passionately idealistic and hellbent on voicing my views and spreading my visions. It corrects (along with the Gryffindor Libra profile and my Leo rising sign) the misconception that I as a Libra value surface harmony and social inoffensiveness over truth/justice/principles.... :-|

I did read on one site, too, that Dragon is most~analogous to Aries in traits...Aries is opposite to Libra in the zodiac, but I've seen a lot of similarities for me in't since I started RPing as Starsky, his actor (and by extension the character) being an Aries.
